General helping

The following links provide opportunities to help out.  We’re not responsible for the content of these pages, although we try to make sure they’re legit.

Volunteer Match
Okay, sure, you go to church every Sunday, and maybe you even know the Nicene Creed by heart.  But, as Christians, we’re also supposed to help others (remember that part?).  There are 52 on-going volunteer opportunities within five miles of Holy Cross listed on this site, ranging from Siamese Cat foster homes to helping to feed the hungry.

Greater Good
As long as you're shopping anyway, this site will donate up to 15% of your purchases to an organization you select.  Places like Amazon.com will provide a kick-back to sites that refer buyers, and Greater Good passes most of this on to your selected charity.

The Hunger Site
As nearly as we can tell, this is legitimate.  You click on the button, you donate about a cup of rice to a hungry person.  You can't do it more than once a day (and no fair spoofing your IP address to do it multiple times!).  Visiting their sponsors also adds to the total (they get about $5 for every 1,000 clicks).

The Rain Forest Site
This is the same deal as the hunger site, except instead of rice, you donate land.  Again, this seems to be legit (and we'd be very interested in any evidence suggesting otherwise).

Episco-pages

These link will take you to Episcopal, Anglican, and Christian websites (The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion).

The Episcopal Church of the United States
The Lutheran/Episcopal Concordat, messages from Presiding Bishop Griswold, notes from the 2000 General Convention—all the news from the National Church.  Great Episco-links!

The Anglican Communion
Like the ECUSA’s website, but with a global perspective.

Anglicans Online
A weekly online magazine aimed at Anglicans worldwide.

The Witness
Since 1917, a "feisty and opinionated" Episcopal magazine.  "We side with Jesus’ radical claim that every person, every creature, every part of creation belongs to God, and deserves the deepest respect and care."

Anglican Resources
A great historical resource of Anglican tradition, including The Book of Common Prayer from the seventeenth through twenty-first centuries, and a chronological timeline of Anglican history.

OREMUS
A comprehensive place of prayer on the Internet.  The site includes resources for daily prayer and other worship, including hymns and liturgical forms.  You can subscribe to a lovely liturgy that appears in your e-mail inbox every morning, and they even offer an online bible study.

The Cyber Hymnal
This site has over 2,500 Christian hymns and Gospel songs from many denominations.  You’ll find lyrics, scores, MIDI files, pictures, history, and more.

The Anglican Pages of Louie Crew
Need to know how much the Diocese of Olympia gave to the ECUSA in 1998?  Are you wondering the average age of ordination in the Diocese of Oklahoma, or how many minority and women priests there are in the Diocese of Chicago?  Dr. Crew, a professor at Rutgers University, and founder of the Episcopal movement Integrity, lists and analyzes more data than you can shake a crozier at.

Ship of Fools
Our English brethren have a go of it.  Monty Python meets the Anglican Church.
